Unless, I have my own experience, I never new how powerful tool our breathing can be. We don't need any outside help, we are already by born equipped with this god gifted mechanism. Breathing happens automatically. Most of the time we aren't conscious about it, that means, we don't notice how breathing is flowing . When we are consciously breathing our mind will start to relax (I am explaining later, what conscious breathing is). Stable mind means our body will start to respond positively. Our breathing will be slow and deep, we will be more active and fresh. People will be overall fit and healthy. On the other hand, if we are stressed, our physical change will be very much visible. We will start to breath rapidly, heartbeat will increase and a lot of other health problrm will arise.
Anxiety, stress, depression are all interlinked to each other. If we are too much into over thinking, our breathing will give the signal like shortness of breath, shallow breathing. Study shows stress is root of most of our health problem. If we can direct our mind in right way we can control stress, anxiety. Breathing helps to divert the mind to positive thinking. Deep breathing manages stress and pain, and reduce anxiety and depression. Even severe mental health problem can be treated with this simple tool.
How to start
Start with regular short interval breathing practices and later continue with extended period of time.
There are different types of breathing.
Normal breathing to deep breathing.
pranayama
Concentration practice.
How to work on our breathing to control our emotions:
My experience tells me, most of us we don't even know how breathing exercises work. Most effective practice we do, when we start our session, at least we spend 5 to10 minutes for breathing exercises. We do intercostal breathing, belly breathing and yogic breathing. It helps to generate more blood flow, and helps to focus more in class.
Long term effect :
You can concentrate, you can solve things confidently, you can get rid of your anger issues, dicission making gets better.
In a few years time you will see yourself in a differemnt place. You might have grown interest in meditation also.
You might be thinking, how will I reach to that point? To be honest with you, it isn"t as hard . Only you need a little patience and discipline. When you will start to get into the process, everything will fall in place.
We all are in same boat, our work pressure is too much. But, we are now more concern about our health nowadays. We want to change the way we live, change our diet but somehow, we can't make it happen because of our work pressure and family commitments and sedentary lifestyle. Study shows, 15 to 18 percent anxiety and depression rate has increased than before. It is high time to take this thing seriously.
Now question is, how many of us are serious about it? We can count it in our hands, it is that low. First we have to recognise our problem, then it will be easy to take steps.
If you attend 4 days a week yoga class, do you know how much you can see change in your mental hrealth? Your surrounding, work, family relation in everything you will have positive effect.
